Monarch’s Journey

The idea of a gardening blog has circled around me for awhile. I turned this thought in my head over and over and it was at this moment I saw this monarch seeking out food that I decided to launch this blog.

For whichever the reason, this monarch butterfly was able to find my small narrow leaf milkweed plant that was planted in the wrong place. The plant is hidden, away from my main garden area. It’s actually a volunteer. It was in a potted plant that I admittedly ignored due to it accumulating a lot of aphids and then I had a bit of a panic when I realized it was not a good plant to have around pets. I made a makeshift fence so it would not be near any cats (the cats were not interested in it anyways) and proceeded to neglect it. It flowered and dropped seeds before I found what I thought was a better, safer place for it, and then it died during transplanting.

Moving forward, this spot would have a volunteer milkweed every year for the past 3 years now. Which means, it was probably the best spot for it in the first place.

So my analogy of this milkweed plant and the monarch butterfly is this: you may circle around and around looking for that something but you will find it in the strangest of places and realize, I probably needed it. It was meant for me.
