Huntington Beach Central Park’s Secret Garden – Huntington Beach, CA

I visited the Huntington Beach Central Park because it was listed as an area that has a grove of eucalyptus trees and I was hoping to see some Monarch butterflies. Along the perimeter of the park are many eucalyptus trees where you may find several butterflies flying around. I saw my very first red admiral butterfly in Southern California here.

While walking around this park, it was a completely special moment as we stumbled upon a Secret Garden.

Located at Park East, near the Huntington Beach Central Library, is a chain-link fenced secret garden. Not knowing what to expect, we entered the garden to find drought tolerant plants: from natives, to succulents and agaves, and Pride of Madeira (Echium cancans). We meandered through the secret garden with a well laid path that kept every corner a hidden surprise.

You might find a fairy garden.

You will not feel alone in the secret garden, with happy singing birds and animal activity. Be aware, there are squirrels here which have been adapted to humans and will walk up to you and beg for food.

On our fall day, the trees were turning in their autumnal beauty.

This secret garden is a lovely example of a small compact garden with alluring walking paths and well placed plants. It inspires as a magical spot for humans to enjoy and for pollinators and wildlife.
