Glendora Arboretum and Botanic Garden

Located at 201 W Gladstone St, Glendora, CA 91740

I have been to this newer built garden (2017) several times and as lovely as it is, it looked as if it needed some growing in. On a day in mid-June of 2023, I stopped to view its progress and nearly every shrub and plant was blooming due to our rainy season.

On just two acres, the Glendora Arborteum and Botanic Garden, does not require an admission fee, open 24 hours, pets are allowed, has street parking, and several concrete picnic benches that you can tote your meal and enjoy in the gardens. It is also completely ADA (American with Disabilities Act) compatible which means you will find wide, smooth walking paths throughout the garden.

With over 80 trees including Palo Verde, Coastal Live Oaks, Sycamores, bottle trees, and fruit trees, the Glendora Arborteum and Botanic Garden, is a small urban forest. A few of these trees are fully mature while others are younger and will grow in.

There is also plenty of native plants including white sage, cleveland sage, native verbena and yarrow.

Non-native plants include verbena, lantana, Buddleia, Leucospermum (protea), lavender, and rosemary.

If you are familiar with these types of plants you will note that the native and non-native plants are drought tolerant and also are known as plants that attract pollinators such as butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. While there, I noted several different types of butterflies: Monarchs, Yellow Sulphers, and Funereal duskywings.

The wide walking trails that are ADA compliant can also be found in an ADA compliant boxwood maze. This part of the garden feels like it is set on a parking lot but the maze is still fun and still a challenge.

As this botanic garden matures, it will feel even more lush. While seniors and those with disabilities may not be able to walk on natural trails such as those found when I went wildflower chasing, this garden is highly recommended for them as the bloom is absolutely impressive and you will also see native plants and trees. This garden manages to be diverse in its plantings of trees, balancing natives with non-natives, and is inclusive for every visitor.
